The Security and Prosperity Partnership was signed in Mexico, March 23, 2005, in Waco, Texas by President Bush, Mexican President Vicente Fox and then-Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin. It involves deep integration and integration by ‘stealth’. The ‘new vision’ of a North American Union will bring with it increased poverty, increased social ills and the decimation of our environment.
According to Jeff Faux of the Economic Policy Institute, NAFTA “explicitly excluded any protection for working people in the form of labour standards.” And by the U.S. government agency responsible for enforcing the labour provisions of NAFTA, “Mexican authorities regularly deny the establishment of democratic, independent trade unions”. Mr. Faux goes on to say ‘While official unemployment rates in Mexico are lower now than they were before NAFTA, there has been an increase of underemployment, as well as an increase of low paying jobs and low-productivity jobs. Therefore, even though unemployment has decreased, the incomes of the employed have actually fallen.’
In an article by Susan Howatt, Canadian Perspectives Spring 2007 (COC), ‘At the World Water Forum at The Hague in 2000, in Kyoto in 2003, and in Mexico City in 2006, Canada refused to declare water as a human right. And in 2002, Canada was the only country to vote against a resolution by the UN Committee on Human Rights to appoint a Special Rapporteur to promote the right to water, stating, “Canada does not accept that there is a right to drinking water and sanitation.” Really? Since human beings need water, air and food to survive I find this an extremely alarming position for Harper and his Conservative government to take. Who is our water for then, if not for the citizens of Canada? This is the kind of philosophy that is deeply rooted in the SPP Agreement.
These meetings, like TILMA, are being held in secret and again, there is no plan to engage Canadians. This agreement, I believe, will effectively annex Canada to the U.S., through massive deregulation by ‘stealth’, and will abrogate our Canadian rights to powerful U.S. corporations and the U.S. government. It is being done with the blessing of our Americanized Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, and is tantamount to treason.
Treason: The offense of acting to overthrow one’s government or to harm or kill its sovereign; a violation of allegiance to one’s sovereign or to one’s state; the betrayal of a trust or confidence; breach of faith; treachery.
Excerpts from related articles available on the ‘net and absolutely worth reading:
From the Council of Canadians – Canadian Perspectives Spring 2007 - “At the World Water Forum at The Hague in 2000, in Kyoto in 2003, and in Mexico City in 2006, Canada refused to declare water as a human right. And in 2002, Canada was the only country to vote against a resolution by the UN Committee on Human Rights to appoint a Special Rapporteur to promote the right to water, stating, “Canada does not accept that there is a right to drinking water and sanitation.”
From the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives – Canada’s growing gap at new 30-year high – Mar. 1/07 - “Canada’s income gap is growing: In 2004, the richest 10% of families earned 82 times more than the poorest 10% - almost triple the ratio of 1976, when they earned 31 times more. In after-tax terms the gap is at a 30-year high. Bottom half shut out: Between 1976-79 the bottom half earned 27% of total earnings. Between 2001-04 that dropped to 20.5%, though they worked more. Up to 80% of families lost ground or stayed put compared to the previous generation, in both earnings and after-tax terms. The poorest saw real incomes drop.” “Work is not enough: All but the richest 10% of families are working more weeks and hours in the paid workforce (200 hours more on average since 1996) yet only the richest 10% saw a significant increase in their earnings – 30%.”
From CanWest New Service; Ottawa Citizen - Canadian, U.S. and Mexican officials held secretive meeting on integration – Feb. 7/07 - “Presentation outlines for the forum acknowledge that the concept of North American integration - which some call a "North American Union" - is unpopular, and note that it might be tough to sell as a concept.” "While a vision is appealing, working on the infrastructure might yield more benefit and bring more people on board ('evolution by stealth')," the notes said.” "Evolution by stealth" means using regulatory changes, such as food- and drug-safety benchmarks, which don't require parliamentary approval, to lay the infrastructure for North American integration. This allows for change with little or no public debate, critics say.”
From Vive Le Canada.ca - U.S. Bush administration allies want Canada along with francophone Quebec "erased" by 2010 – Mar. 10/07 - “The Council of Foreign Relations (CFR) which advises the U.S. Bush administration is calling for the "erasure" of Canada by 2010. Quebec as it exists today, in relation to its civil code, and other francophone cultural protections, is also to be "transformed" by 2010 under Anglo-American control. The Stephen Harper government reportedly further confirmed the terms of this "erasure" in Cancun, Mexico, under secondary provisions of the "Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America" (SPP). It is notable that neither "separatists" nor "federalists" in the current Quebec provincial elections have sought to debate the imminent destruction of the Quebec social and cultural fabric under an Anglo-American agenda.”
“Dr. Robert A. Pastor, a Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) task force Vice-Chair, is looking forward to the conquest of Canadian resources from oil to drinking water, and hydro power in Quebec, by U.S. Big Business interests linked to the U.S. Bush administration. Indeed, "All the while 'We the People' were largely 'left out of the loop' until CNN's Lou Dobbs exposed the CFR's plans," says Dr. Daneen G. Peterson. The goal of the sought "erasure" of Canada was formally announced by Mr. Pastor, who is the apparent chairperson of U.S. neo-conservatives efforts on North American Union (NAU). Indeed, Dr.. Pastor was actually recorded on video before U.S. Congressional related group, to be pursuing the "erasure" of Canada by 2010 (the year of the Olympics). Mr. Pastor envisions that with the "erasure" of Canada, along with the corresponding destruction of the U.S. and Mexico, a new "North America" will emerge, under the control of the "wise men" like himself, of a political-military-industrial complex.”
My definition of the SPP:
Security - The U.S. takes over Canada peacefully thanks to Harper and his Conservative Government in return for American-style security and the loss of our constitutional rights as Canadians
Prosperity - Absolutely - For Corporations
Partnership - If you don’t like it, you can ship out… Partner.
